DHS moved to terminate Temporary Protected Status for Somalia, affecting eligible Somali nationals who had been permitted to remain temporarily in the United States because of conditions in their home country. TPS does not itself provide permanent residence, but while a designation is valid it can protect eligible beneficiaries from removal and allow them to receive employment authorization. The decision has faced legal challenges concerning the termination and its consequences for current beneficiaries.
